Mumbai: Only 2 days are left for nomination for Maharashtra Assembly elections, but the disunity in Kalyan District Congress is not ending. Here 125 workers have tendered mass resignation saying that Congress has been ousted from Konkan and Thane districts in this election. District President Sachin Pote told in a press conference that we all are resigning from our posts. Apart from this, Pote said that the party leaders should take Kalyan-East and West assembly constituencies for themselves. We all have been working honestly for more than a decade. We have followed the coalition dharma since the Lok Sabha elections till now. Despite the favorable environment for Congress in Konkan and Thane districts in the assembly elections, not a single seat was left for the party.
What did the stomach say?
Barring Bhiwandi, demolition work has been done in Thane district. Pote said that we will soon decide whether to work for the Uddhav group candidate in the elections or not. Women District President Kanchan Kulkarni, Vice President Rajabhau Patkar, Block President Vimal Thakkar, State Member Munna Tiwari, Youth Congress President Japjit Singh, Block President Shakeel Khan etc. were present in the press conference.
Strong opposition to giving ticket to Dayanand Chorghe
There is a tussle in MVA regarding candidature in Bhiwandi-East and West assemblies. Bhiwandi-East is with SP, which Shiv Sena (UBT) has strongly opposed and threatened of mass resignation. Similarly, in the West, Congress has fielded Bhiwandi Rural District President Dayanand Chorghe as its candidate. As soon as his name was announced, the party has divided into two camps.
Activists allege that Chorghe has no support base here. Local leaders were demanding the candidature of a Muslim or any leader with mass base here since the Lok Sabha elections. Activists demonstrated throughout the night near the house of former mayor Vilas Patil and Abdul Rashid Tahir Momin. Momin said that all the corporators and officials of Congress are angry with this decision. If the party does not reconsider till October 29, then a decision will be taken. At the same time, Patil has said that his claim remains intact and he will give information about the next step on the last evening of nomination.
He welcomed the candidature
Congress official Javed Farooqui and spokesperson Iqbal Ahmed Siddiqui have welcomed Chorghe’s candidature. Meanwhile, State Congress General Secretary Rani Aggarwal said that whatever decision the party takes will be followed. He said that some Congressmen of the city were making rounds of Delhi to get Patil’s ticket. Now the same crocodile tears are being shed when Chorghe gets the ticket.
NCP (Sharad faction) is also angry
Sharad group is also angry with Chorghe’s candidature. Former Deputy Mayor Imran Khan has said that a Muslim should have been made a candidate from a Muslim dominated area. Congress had also taken a wrong decision in the 2019 mayor’s election, due to which 18 corporators rebelled.
