Employer Accused of Rape in Makassar, Wife Allegedly Recorded Assault

A 22-year-old woman in Makassar, South Sulawesi, has accused her employer of sexual assault, with disturbing allegations that the perpetrator’s wife both facilitated and recorded the attacks. The case, reported to the Makassar Police on Saturday, January 3, 2026, has sparked outrage and prompted an immediate response from local authorities.

The alleged incidents occurred between January 1-2, 2026, at the perpetrator’s residence in the Barombong area. According to a companion of the victim, Alita Karen, the woman was held captive and subjected to horrific abuse. “The victim was forced to have sexual intercourse by his wife and then recorded it,” Karen told journalists while accompanying the victim to the police station.

Repeated Assaults and Coercion

Details emerging from the investigation reveal a pattern of calculated abuse. A representative from the South Sulawesi Women’s Issues Observer Foundation (YPMP) stated that the victim was raped twice within the perpetrator’s home. The wife’s involvement escalated with each assault. “Twice, the first time the cellphone was still hidden in the cupboard, but it was in recording condition. Then the second time, the perpetrator’s wife immediately recorded it. So the process of sexual intercourse was recorded directly, so there were two times,” the YPMP representative explained.

The victim was allegedly threatened with violence if she refused to comply. According to reports, she was physically assaulted prior to the assaults, including being slapped and having her hair pulled by the perpetrator’s wife. The victim was subsequently sent home after the attacks before seeking help from authorities.

Official Response and Victim Support

The Head of the Makassar Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Service, Ita Isdiana Anwar, confirmed she accompanied the victim to report the incident. “Yes, I just came to report at UPTD PPA, temporarily assessment,” Anwar stated, indicating that a comprehensive evaluation of the victim’s well-being is underway.

While the Head of the Makassar Police PPA Unit, Inspector Arianto, declined to comment directly on the case, sources indicate that the perpetrator’s wife has been detained by police.

This case underscores the urgent need for increased vigilance and support for victims of sexual violence. The deliberate recording of the assaults adds a particularly disturbing dimension to the crime, highlighting the perpetrator’s wife’s complicity and the profound trauma inflicted upon the victim. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
