Malaysia’s men’s and women’s badminton teams are set to begin their campaigns at the Thailand SEA Games this weekend, with high hopes for continued success in the regional competition.The tournament, commencing Sunday, Dec. 6,will see both squads face initial challenges as they pursue gold medals.
The men’s team, seeded second in the tournament, will kick off their bid for a championship against the Philippines at Thammasat University in Pathum Thani. A successful opening match could pave the way for a highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Thailand.
According to the draw conducted Saturday,defending champions Indonesia received a bye,automatically advancing them to the semi-finals. Women’s Team Faces Early Test
In the women’s event, Malaysia, jointly seeded third and fourth, will begin their journey against Vietnam in the quarter-finals on Sunday. While the initial match is expected to be manageable,the team anticipates a tougher test in the semi-finals against Indonesia,the defending silver medalists.
Indonesia will first need to overcome Myanmar in their quarter-final match to secure their place in the semi-final round. Thailand, the reigning gold medalists from the previous edition in Cambodia, also received a bye and will await the winner of the Singapore-Philippines quarter-final.
