In Rasmus Højlund’s injury absence, United manager Erik ten Hag trusted that an attacking line consisting of Fernandes, Rashford and Garnacho would deliver the goods forward in the pitch.
And one must be able to say that they did.
In particular, the Everton defense was unable to handle Garnacho, who on Saturday afternoon became historic in a United context.

Manchester United got off to a flying start to the match when Garnacho was brought down in the penalty area and the penalty mark was pointed to.
Forward came Fernandes, who sent United into the lead.
At the other end, Everton were dangerously forward on several occasions, but a good Onana in the United cage and an ineffective Everton meant it was still 1–0.
Then Garnacho used the opportunity to punish Everton again. The Argentine danced his way past several players, before Godfrey fouled him and the referee awarded the afternoon’s second penalty.
This time it was Rashford’s turn to try – and he didn’t make a mistake from eleven meters either.
According to Sky Sports Garnacho is the first player in United’s history to win two penalties in the same Premier League game.
– Garnacho has been a nightmare for the Everton defender in the first half, summarized Viaplay’s Kasper Wikestad when the teams went into the break.
Gigantic chances
Midway through the second half, Everton messed up violently in their own half on a corner. The ball eventually ended up in the legs of Swedish Lindelöf, but Pickford made a heroic save.
Fifteen minutes before the end, Calvert-Lewin had a giant opportunity, but the striker was missing a couple of shoe sizes on the plinth.
Although United at United in no way impressed at the back of the pitch, the contributions at the other end were enough to secure three points.
United are now eight points clear of the famous fourth place.
