Marine Le Pen, Manuel Bompard, Adrien Quatennens… Nine candidates are not elected despite having exceeded 50% of the votes cast

by time news

Of the 577 legislative constituencies, fourteen candidates exceeded the symbolic bar of 50% of the vote. However, only five of them were actually elected in the first round. Indeed, the electoral code provides that to be elected in the first round, it is necessary to obtain the majority of the votes cast with a number of votes corresponding to at least 25% of the registered voters of the constituency.

Nine candidates thus obtained in the first round the votes of more than 50% of the voters who went to the polls without however obtaining a seat in the Palais-Bourbon. This is the case of the candidate of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, as well as eight candidates of Nupes. The most eloquent example is that of Stéphane Peu, in the 2e constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis, which obtained 62.85% of the votes cast, representing only 20.1% of registered voters, more than two-thirds of voters having shunned the ballot boxes (67.21%).
