Meteor shower this month will be accompanied by bright fireballs

by time news

“Halloween fireballs,” as NASA calls them, can still be seen shining brightly in the night sky over the next few weeks thanks to the South Taurids meteor shower.

The expected peak of the shower is no earlier than Saturday, November 5, according to EarthSky, and the Taurids are known for producing the brightest fireballs, meteors that can appear brighter than the planet Venus.

This year’s stream is expected to include an increased number of fireballs, also known as the Taurid Swarm. The Southern Taurids typically show about five meteors per rush hour, the point where the Earth is closest to the center of the debris flow. But every seven years, Jupiter’s gravity pulls in a stream of meteors and causes a surge in their numbers.
