The name of former president Michelle Bachelet appears among the options to assume the General Secretariat of the United Nations (UN).), indicated the Chilean ambassador to the establishment, Paula Narváez.
In an interview with T13, Narváez acknowledged that, informally, Bachelet is a candidate to take António Guterres’ position in 2026.
“Informally, representatives from different countries point to her (Bachelet) as the next Secretary General of the United Nations”said the former presidential candidate of the PS.
Along these lines, Paula Narváez announced that the person who replaces Guterres will be from America due to a rotation issue.
“The next General Secretariat of the United Nations should correspond to Latin America and the Caribbean. This is always by rotation of regions. And therefore, the name of Michelle Bachelet is always there,” he added.

But Paula Narváez also referred to an eventual third nomination of the former President to La Moneda, pointing out that his name will always emerge as an alternative due to his “political stature.”
“It seems normal to me that for many people it always emerges as an alternative, due to the political importance that it has and the impact that it has,” he said.
Currently, former President Bachelet is on a tour of France and Spain.
