Pittsburgh Steelers‘ QB Situation as Justin Fields Continues to Shine
Justin Fields will get at least one more go as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin stated in his Friday press conference that Russell Wilson had a good week but is likely to serve as the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“He’s proven his health, now it’s just a matter of knocking the rust off,” Tomlin said, via Mike DeFabo of TheAthletic.com. “He’s probably going to be active as the No. 2 quarterback. I like what I’ve seen out here. But again, health and rust are two different things.
“I thought he had a good week, displaying his health and ability to protect himself. Now it’s just the process of getting re-acclimated to the ball,” he added.
Wilson has been sidelined by a calf injury for the first five weeks of the season, although he has served as the emergency third quarterback for Pittsburgh. Recently, he practiced fully for the first time this season, though Tomlin noted earlier that Wilson’s practice reps would come with the scout team.
Wilson expressed confidence earlier this week, stating, “If I’m called upon, I’ll be ready to play and play at a high level.”
In the five games leading up to this point, Fields has completed 67.6% of his passes, accumulating 961 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. Additionally, he has rushed for 172 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Pittsburgh’s full injury report, including game statuses, will be released later today.
