British far-right commentator and media provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States to the United Kingdom following his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.
Milo Yiannopoulos Deported to the United Kingdom by ICE
The 41-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, according to The Associated Press. Department of Homeland Security officials stated that Yiannopoulos originally entered the United States legally through New York City in May 2019, but subsequently overstayed his authorized visa. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled immigration hearing.
A DHS spokesperson described Yiannopoulos as an illegal alien from the United Kingdom who was returned to his home country on Friday. While DHS statements did not explicitly name the destination in initial agency releases, the UK’s Telegraph newspaper cited two senior US sources confirming he was flown back to Britain, according to reporting by The Guardian.
Irony of Detention and Past Support for Immigration Enforcement
Yiannopoulos’s arrest by federal immigration authorities drew widespread attention due to his history of strongly advocating for aggressive immigration enforcement and public support for ICE during President Donald Trump’s administration.
In social media posts over preceding years, Yiannopoulos repeatedly called for mass deportations and strict immigration checkpoints. In 2025, he posted messages calling for millions of deportations and suggesting that California establish immigration checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections and government buildings, advocating on-the-spot deportations for anyone unable to prove legal residency. He also wrote that immigration enforcement agents should receive total legal immunity while on duty.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer took credit on social media for reporting Yiannopoulos’s immigration status to federal authorities following a public feud between the two commentators. Loomer posted on X that she was the first person to report that Yiannopoulos was in the US unlawfully, writing that she had reported him to ICE and the FBI.
Political Background and Fall from Prominence
Yiannopoulos rose to prominence in the mid-2010s as a senior editor for the conservative outlet Breitbart News, becoming an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election. His influence peaked when he was invited to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2017. However, he resigned from Breitbart and lost his CPAC speaking slot later that year after the resurfacing of a video in which he condoned sexual relations with minors.
In subsequent years, Yiannopoulos worked with various political figures in the conservative and nationalist fringe. He served as an unpaid intern for former US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in June 2022 and later acted as a campaign aide and spokesperson for the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, during West’s short-lived 2024 presidential campaign. Yiannopoulos was also credited with helping organize a 2022 dinner at Mar-a-Lago involving Trump, West, and white nationalist Nick Fuentes.
Yiannopoulos’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment following his apprehension, and his personal social media account remained inactive following his arrest at the New Orleans airport.
