Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova commented on the appointment of Valery Gergiev as the new general director of the Bolshoi Theater in her telegram channel.
“Valery Gergiev will lead the Bolshoi Theater simultaneously with his current work as artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theater, which he has headed since 1988,” wrote Olga Lyubimova.
The minister also once again recalled that Vladimir Urin, who headed BT for twenty years, “left his position of his own free will.”
“We have been working for many years with both Vladimir Georgievich Urin and Valery Abisalovich Gergiev, we have a lot of experience together. Behind us are many tours, joint festivals, and complex international events. All this will not stop,” Olga Lyubimova assured, promising Gergiev all support from the Ministry of Culture.
