She was the embodiment of Miss France. A moving tribute was paid on Saturday to Geneviève de Fontenay, who died this summer, during the Miss France 2024 election which took place this Saturday in Dijon, broadcast on TF1.
38 Misses from the 1960s to today, all dressed in black and white, paraded in memory of the “lady with the hat”, elected Miss Elegance France 1957 and president of the Miss France committee from 1981 to 2007. Among them, Sylvie Tellier (2002), Amandine Petit (2021), Linda Hardy (1992), or Cindy Fabre (2005).

The sequence ended with a round of applause from the Misses, some of whom appeared very moved. Geneviève de Fontenay died in August at the age of 90. Known for her rants and controversial remarks, the woman who defended a conservative image of femininity had gradually withdrawn from public life.
“The Miss France family shares the pain of their family and loved ones. She will remain forever in our hearts,” the Miss France committee reacted to the announcement of her death, evoking “immense sadness” and “an emblematic figure in the history of Miss France who knew how to highlight women and their independence “.
