Submarine disappeared during expedition

The submarine Titan, which disappeared on Monday (19) during an expedition to visit the wreckage of the Titanic, has up to 96 hours of oxygen
on board, said US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger. The data, according to him, are based on information received from the operator of the vessel.

Passengers have “between 70 and 96 hours” of oxygen available on the submarine, the Coast Guard predicts.

In a press conference this Monday, the Commander of the First District of the Coast Guard said that the searches are complex, since the vessel
it can be both under water and on the surface.

Mauger, who is leading the search operation, said the submarine may have surfaced but lost communication. The search relies on aircraft, sonar buoys and “sonar on the ship that’s out there to listen for any sounds that we can detect in the water column,” he said.

The OceanGate submarine took tourists on expeditions to see the wreckage of the Titanic, but it disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean. One operation
search and rescue was launched by the US Coast Guard USA
on this second. There were five people inside the vessel.

OceanGate, which operates the missing submarine, says it is “exploring and mobilizing all options” to bring the crew back safely.
