Woman Missing from Stoughton Rescued After Being Found Stuck in Mud at Massachusetts State Park

Stoughton, MA – A woman who had been reported missing for a week was found trapped in the mud at Borderland State Park in Easton. The woman had been stuck in the mud for several days before she was finally rescued on Monday.

Stoughton police had been searching for the missing woman and had reached out to the public for help. It was hikers in Borderland State Park who heard her cries for help and alerted the authorities. Unfortunately, due to the marshy conditions, the hikers were unable to reach her.

Easton police were quick to respond, using ATVs to access the woman’s location. When they arrived, they found her conscious and alert, despite her prolonged entrapment in the mud. Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara expressed relief, stating, “This is the best possible outcome.”

The hikers who initially heard the woman’s pleas for help called 911 to report the incident. Easton police arrived at the scene in ATVs and entered the swampy water to locate her. After a challenging search, they found the woman around 50 feet away from the shore. They carried her back to land, where firefighters provided her with immediate medical assistance. She was then transported to Brockton’s Good Samaritan Hospital.

Officials estimate that the woman had been trapped in the mud for at least three days. Although she sustained serious injuries, she is expected to recover from the ordeal.

Easton Police Chief Keith Boone praised the brave officers who risked their safety to save the woman, saying, “I’d like to commend our Easton officers, who blindly jumped into the water and followed the woman’s calls for help. Their immediate action resulted in saving” her life.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the search efforts, utilizing drones and boats to cover the expansive Borderland State Park. The park spans over 1,800 acres, including 330 acres of wetlands.

During the search, the woman was identified. Stoughton police had mentioned her history of mental health challenges, and there were concerns that she hadn’t taken her medications for several days. On Saturday, there were potential sightings of her, leading first responders to focus their efforts in Stoughton.

The successful rescue of the woman serves as a reminder of the importance of community involvement and the dedication of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of all individuals.
