Modernization works begin at the Avenida de América station of the Madrid Metro

The modernization works at the Avenida de América metro station have started with a previous phase with the occupation of outer lanes. The first stage will begin next month, while the second will extend from January 10, 2024 to January 10, 2026. During this period, ten elevators will be installed and waterproofing, drainage and sanitation improvements will be carried out, among other actions.

The preliminary works, which will last until October 2, include the demolition of the median and the adaptation of the road signs to enable circulation, as well as the detours of the different services affected.

The project for the modernization of this station, which has an estimated duration of three years, will serve to install ten elevators that enable an accessible route in the connection of the platforms of lines 4, 6, 7, 9 and the Avenida bus interchange. of America, and with entrances to the street at both ends. Added to this are the planned waterproofing, drainage and sanitation improvements for the station and the replacement of some of the existing materials with others more resistant to external aggression to minimize maintenance work.

After these initial works, phase 1 will begin, from October 3 to January 9, 2024, which entails greater surface occupation. During this period, tasks will be carried out to align the transverse pile shafts, as well as concreting part of María de Molina Street in its section between Francisco Silvela and Príncipe de Vergara. The second stage will extend from January 10, 2024 to January 10, 2026.

These works were awarded in April 2022 to the consortium formed by Dragados and Geotecnia y Cimientos for 38 million euros (see news).
