Catalonia consolidated in 2021 as the autonomous community with the highest number of taxpayers in the estate taxat a great distance from the Valencian Communityof Madrid and of Andalusia who occupy the following positions. However, based on other parameters, the statistics on wealth tax published by the Tax Agency this Monday indicate that Madrid as much as the community with the highest average net worth per filer (followed by Galicia, the Balearic Islands, Murcia and the Canary Islands) as the one that earns the least from this tax (zero euros, since there is a 100% discount)

A total of 231,376 Spanish taxpayers submitted in 2022 a declaration on their assets as of December 31, 2021 (5.65% more than the previous year), as this has a total value of more than two million euros, according to statistics on this tax published this Monday by the Tax Agency.
Specifically, there were 85,876 Catalan taxpayers who submitted a declaration on assets in 2021 (4.14 more than in the previous campaign). This figure represents 37% of all filers (one in 2.7 is Catalan) and more than quadruples the 20,030 taxpayers of Madrid that they are obliged to declare the wealth tax, even if they do not have to pay anything for it (due to the 100% discount that exists in the Madrid community)
Behind Catalonia, the census of wealth taxpayers is headed by Valencian Community (27.61 respondents), Madrid (20.03 million), Andalusia (19.83 million) and Aragon (15.78 million). The data for the Balearic Islands fall below the 10 million wealth tax filers (8.90 million), Galicia (8,55), Castile and Leon (7,68), y Canary Islands (6.78 million). On another lower step we could place the communities of Murcia (4,51), Asturias, (3,93), Castilla la Mancha (3,92), cantabria (3,03) y Estremadura (1.28 million taxpayers).

Catalonia is the community with the largest number of taxpayers and is also the autonomous community that enters the most for this tax. The autonomous coffers of Catalonia entered 593.72 million euros for the wealth tax on 2021, an amount that is 8.63 higher than that of the previous campaign and that represents 43% of the total income that this tribute reported to the autonomous communities (1,352 million euros).
Almost half of the income reported by the 2021 tax went to the Catalan coffers.

However, the data shows that Catalan taxpayers are not the ones that declare the most assets. In total, they declared assets equivalent to 96,542 million euros (in shares, real estate, insurance, jewelry, art or other luxury goods), compared to the 112,882 million declared in Madrid.
In addition, in terms of average assets declared by each taxpayer, the average of 2.82 million that results in Catalonia is far behind the 11.12 million Madrid; the 6.67 of the taxpayers of Galicia; the 3.99 of baleares; the 3.50 of Murcia and of Canary Islands and the 3.08 of The Rioja, and almost at the same level as the 2.86 million of the Valencian Community or the 2.84 million average assets declared in Andalusia.
