Q: mr. Al-Hakim, you recently emphasized the necessity of allowing the Syrian people to decide their own future. Could you elaborate on why this is crucial at this juncture?
Ammar al-Hakim: Absolutely. the importance of letting the Syrian people decide their fate cannot be overstated. We are witnessing a rapid evolution of political and security dynamics within Syria, and it is vital that the voices of its citizens are heard in the crafting of their future. This involves the growth of a constitution that is inclusive and representative of all sects and components of society, helping to foster a transitional and democratic political framework.
Q: You mentioned the need for a transitional and democratic political policy. What steps do you believe are necessary to achieve this?
Ammar al-Hakim: A triumphant transition requires a few key elements. Firstly, we must ensure a thorough approach that involves dialog among all Syrian stakeholders, promoting inclusivity and avoiding exclusion or marginalization of any group. This process must also respect the sanctity of religious sites and protect minorities from any form of ideological persecution. It’s pivotal that this political path is guided with complete independence, steering clear of external influences.
Q: Preservation of Syria’s unity and territorial integrity is a priority for you. How do you propose to safeguard this?
Ammar al-Hakim: Preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity is basic to achieving long-term stability. We must be vigilant against external greed that seeks to exploit the country’s resources or geopolitical positions. This involves strengthening not only internal cohesion among the Syrian people but also fostering robust bilateral relations with neighboring countries, particularly Iraq, that share historical ties and common interests. cooperation through mutual respect will fortify Syria’s standing and integrity.
Q: Given the geopolitical complexities in the region, what practical advice can you offer to the Syrian people and policymakers regarding their future?
ammar al-Hakim: It is indeed critical for the Syrian people to remain proactive and engaged in the political process. This is their chance to advocate for a future that aligns with their aspirations. I encourage collaboration across different communities to create a shared vision. For policymakers, the focus should be on openness, inclusivity, and the active involvement of civil society in the political discourse. Such steps will lay the groundwork for a resilient Syria that honors the rights and identities of all its citizens.
Q: As we conclude, what message would you like to convey to the people of Syria and neighboring nations?
Ammar al-Hakim: My message is one of hope and solidarity. May God protect Syria, its people, and all our Arab and Islamic countries from harm. We must stand together, fostering unity and mutual support, as we navigate these challenging times. The path forward depends on the collective will of the people to pursue peace and stability through democratic means.
