During this interview, held on the sidelines of the Portugal: the 18th plenary session of the PAM on Could 15 and 16 beneath the presidency of Morocco“>18th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), which is being held on May 15 and 16 in Braga (Portugal), Mr. Mayara praised the solidity and depth of the relations uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and Portugal, based on mutual respect and common human values.
The President of the House of Advisors highlighted, in this context, the evolution of the Moroccan-Portuguese partnership and bilateral cooperation in different areas, calling for intensifying efforts to further consolidate parliamentary institutional cooperation in the service of the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
At the regional level, Mr. Mayara stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between PAM member countries in order to address the challenges facing the region, particularly those related to security and stability, development and climate change, noting, in this context, the need to broaden parliamentary dialogue to include the countries of the Sahel. The objective, he added, is to deal more effectively with issues that go beyond the geographical framework of the Euro-Mediterranean region, in particular security, the fight against terrorism and extremism, human trafficking and illegal migration.
For his part, Mr. Aguiar-Branco welcomed the level of relations between Portugal and Morocco, which have been further strengthened in recent years, expressing the ambition to consolidate institutional cooperation between the Portuguese parliament and the two Houses of Parliament of the Kingdom.
The President of the National Assembly of Portugal praised the role played by Morocco at the regional level, in terms of security and stability and supporting common development, stressing the importance of strengthening coordination and consultation between the two countries at the level of regional and international parliamentary forums on issues of common interest.
The work of the 18th plenary session of the PAM opened on Wednesday in Braga, under the presidency of Mr. Mayara, in the presence of the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of the National Assembly of Portugal, as well as representatives of member countries and international organizations, researchers, diplomats and representatives of the private sector.
The opening ceremony of this 18th PAM was marked by the awarding of the PAM Excellence Prize to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM the King Mohammed VI, in recognition of his role and his humanitarian actions in support of the resistance of the Palestinian people in the city of Al-Quds.
This session addresses current themes and questions, through recommendations and resolutions developed within the framework of the specialized permanent commissions of the APM, in particular on the issues of migration, security, terrorism, human trafficking humans, economic, industrial and energy transition, climate change, digitalization and artificial intelligence.
