Pallipalayam, Jan. 25-
The municipal administration has requested the Pollution Control Board to take action against the dye factories operating in violation of rules in Pallipalayam municipal area.
Most of the dye plants operating in Pallipalayam municipal area discharge dye effluent without treatment. Similarly, residential waste water also flows into the river. Due to this, the river water became polluted and caused various physical problems to the public who used it.
In this case, the National Green Tribunal imposed a fine of Rs 55 lakh on the Pallipalayam municipal administration for not taking action to prevent the dye factories from mixing residential sewage into the river. In this, in the first phase last November, a fine of 5 lakh rupees has been paid. Currently, a project estimate of Rs 10.79 crore has been prepared and sent to the government for setting up a public treatment plant. Meanwhile, on the 13th, a consultation meeting was held at the Pallipalayam municipal office, inviting the principals of the dye factory.
Subsequently, a letter has been given to the Pollution Control Board office in Kumarapalayam, on behalf of the Pallipalayam Municipal Administration, to take immediate action against the dye factories operating in violation of the rules. Also, a separate committee has been set up on behalf of the municipality to monitor the dye factories. In a couple of weeks, action will be taken against the dye factories operating in violation of the rules, officials said.
