A former NASA astronaut reports a mysterious encounter with metallic balls in the sky over Texas. A secret US government project?
In the past, it was considered unusual for pilots to publicize unusual sightings of unidentified flying objects. But in recent years, military personnel have increasingly shared their experiences with unexplained flying objects.
Now the former NASA astronaut and former ISS commander Leroy Chiao has reported on his own encounter during a flight in a US television interview with “NewsNation”. The sighting is said to have occurred at an altitude of around 3,000 meters.
Chiao was on his way to Houston via Texas in his private plane after a refueling stop in Colorado when two unknown metallic objects approached within about six meters and then disappeared again.
“It all happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to get scared,” reported the pilot. The objects were about a meter in diameter and narrowly missed Chiao’s plane. Neither the radar nor the air traffic control registered the objects.
Chiao described the encounter as “mysterious” and “disturbing.” He speculated that the bullets could have come from a military program. At first glance, it looked like something from our military, Chiao said. If that wasn’t the case, it would be even scarier.
The orbs described are reminiscent of the so-called Mosul Orb, a spherical object that was filmed by a US spy plane over the northern Iraqi city of Mosul in 2016. Similar objects without recognizable propulsion systems are said to have been observed several times by US military personnel.
In 2023, a video showing a shiny silver ball was shown in the US Senate. The then head of the Pentagon’s Office of UFO Investigations, Sean Kirkpatrick, stated that it was not a balloon. The phenomenon is still classified as unexplained.
People have been reporting unusual observations in the sky for centuries. These are often natural phenomena such as comets, shooting stars, drones or airplanes. But there are also reports of objects that have not yet been clearly explained.
These are often referred to as UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) or UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) – a term used by scientists and the military in the USA. At the same time, scientists are also working intensively on this phenomenon.
Nevertheless, unknown sightings in the sky always raise speculation about the possible involvement of foreign governments or secret US government programs. Officials, including Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, emphasize that there is no evidence of threats to national or public safety. Ryder also ruled out military involvement. There are no military operations or experiments in this region.
