– 2024-04-15 23:05:52″>Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held on October 14 at a hotel in the capital. Three days before the draft, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the names of the seven participating teams. Three new establishments have been added to the old four franchises. Three old teams have been eliminated. Fortune Barisal, Rangpur Riders, Khulna Tigers and Sylhet Strikers are also participating in BPL this time. The new additions are Dhaka Capitals (Walton Group/Harlan & Remark Brand), Durbar Rajshahi (Valentine Group) and Chittagong Kings (SQ Sports Enterprises Limited).
The Chittagong franchise is back after the first two seasons of the BPL. The BPL Governing Council also released the draft list on the day the teams were announced. The BPL Governing Council has released the list of 188 local cricketers in six categories.
Where ‘A’ category cricketer’s maximum salary is 60 lakhs. The minimum ‘F’ category cricketer’s remuneration is 10 lakhs. The draft list includes the names of Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim along with Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe.
There were many questions about whether Mashrafe and Shakib would be able to play BPL in the changing situation of the country. Two separate murder cases have already been registered in the name of two former MPs. Although Shakib is out of the country, Mashrafe is staying in the country after the fall of the government.
Shakib gets Rs 60 lakh in ‘A’ category but Mashrafe is in ‘B’ category. Where the remuneration is 40 lakhs. Besides, Tamim, Mushfiq, Mahmudullah are in ‘A’ category. However, they can get a team before the draft. They can get teams on retainer or direct contract. As per BPL rules, the old four franchises can take a maximum of two players from last season’s squad and one player on direct contract. Besides, the new franchise can take two players on direct contract.
Last season’s three franchises Dhaka, Comilla and Chittagong have dropped out. The players of those three teams can be taken by any team directly on contract if they want and if they want they can take them to the team from the players draft.
There are 12 players each in ‘A’ and ‘B’ categories in the draft. There are 22 players in ‘C’ category. There are 28, 51 and 63 players in ‘D’, ‘E’, and ‘F’ categories respectively. Teams must have a minimum squad of 12 members. Where 10 local and 2 foreign players are mandatory. As many foreign players can be registered. But maximum 4 people can play. Besides, maximum 14 local cricketers can be taken.
