They tried everything in front of their audience and didn’t go far from attracting the Parisians! The players of FC Nantes lost by just one goal this Saturday 12 October in La Beaujoire against PSG (0-1) on the 4th matchday of the Arkema Premier League in front of 16,847 spectators, a record for a team promoted to the top level. This is also a national attendance record for a women’s football match, excluding PSG-OL or OL-PSG posters and the fifth poster in the league’s history.
Faced with fans who were still a little timid at the start of the match, the Nantes women were punished in the 3rd minute by Grace Geyoro. Well served from the left of the pitch by Tara Gilbert, the French international managed to make her way through the opposition defense to fix goalkeeper Emily Burns.
But Nicolas Chabot’s players slowly managed to regain possession of the ball, also benefiting from the Parisians’ mistakes and errors in midfield. Manon Uffren, with a sublime free kick, even thought of equalizing in the 34th minute of the game, but in the end it hit the crossbar.
The Nantes women continued at the same pace in the second half, but were tight on counterattacks or final passes as they approached the opponent’s area. “We had a great performance tonight, we didn’t miss much,” commented defender Julie Pasquereau on Canal+ Foot, before taking a lap of honor to thank the fans. The crowd was fantastic and despite the defeat I think we did great things, they will come. (…) I think that tonight the people of Nantes are happy and proud of their team. It’s encouraging, we’ll keep working. »
“It was hard, very hard,” acknowledges Parisian Élisa de Almeida. We were dealing with a very good team. It’s wonderful what they do, with an audience that pushes them like that. For our part there are many things to improve, especially on an offensive level, we need to finish faster.” Second-placed PSG face Fleury on 18 October but may be without Marie-Antoine Katoto, who came off at half-time with a thigh problem.
