Narva Trans football club hopes to restore its home stadium, Kalev-Fama, which was built 11 years ago. It seems unbelievable, but the stadium hosting the Estonian championship matches still does not have a public toilet.
At the same time, Trans hopes to use the pneumatic hall that is being prepared for commissioning for its needs, the prices of which the authorities have not yet decided.
It seemed like a temporary solution, but turned out to be permanent
Nikolai Burdakov, president of the Narva Narva Trans football club, told NG that the club now hopes to implement a global renovation project for the Kalev-Fama stadium, which it leases from the city.
“We are talking about replacing artificial turf, replacing the lighting of the field, building a building with locker rooms, other facilities, toilets, among other things. There is still no public toilet on the stadium grounds, which is, of course, nonsense. A year ago, the city was ready to build it – they allocated € 70,000 for a public toilet. But when they held a competition for a contractor, it turned out that it could not be built for less than 200 miles. I don’t know where these numbers come from, but there are still no toilets,” says Nikolai Burdakov.
– Meanwhile, there are several locker rooms.
– So these are basically construction trailers, long outdated in every sense. Generally their service life is 5 years, and it is already almost three times longer. Everything is broken, rotten, and needs replacement,” declares Burdakov.
“Of course, the pneumatic hall is a great opportunity for us to train in the winter. There is nothing worth discussing here.
The president of the club reports that the Just Transition Fund supported the stadium reconstruction project, which guaranteed 921,000 euros, but for this the city must provide self-financing in the amount of 20 percent of the total budget.
It is not known what the total budget will be; the exact amount will be revealed at competitions for each part of the project.
It’s time to change the lawn
“I have already spoken to the leadership of Narva about this, and in general there is a willingness to support the development of the stadium by financing the project itself. Let me remind you, just in case, that the city owns the stadium, and the club rents it out. Another question is whether this money is enough for everything; We have already prepared the terms of the competition for the replacement of artificial turf, and we are preparing a competition for the construction of a new lighting system. Today, outdated lamps are used, which always burn out, and their replacement is very expensive. They need to be replaced by more modern and reliable ones,” says Burdakov.
According to him, they hope to replace the artificial turf next spring, since its capacity has long been exhausted. Note once again that the Kalev-Fama Stadium hosts the Estonian Major League Championship games, and there is a risk that the current surface is considered unsuitable for games of this level.
Note that Nikolai Burdakov sent a petition to the Narva authorities to support the club’s activities next year, requesting that 117 thousand
It is not yet clear how much it will cost to use the pneumatic hall
The pneumatic hall under construction on Krenholm, almost ready for delivery, with a full-sized artificial football field, as well as infrastructure for track and field athletes, now raises one main question: how much will it cost to rent?
Nikolai Burdakov told NG that the club is definitely interested in using this newest Narva sports facility. He emphasizes that it is indispensable, not only for the training of the Narva Trans main team, but also for the football practice of the club’s three hundred young students, of all ages, in the frosty winter off-season.
“Of course, the pneumatic hall is a great opportunity for us to train in the winter. There is nothing even to discuss here,” says Nikolai Burdakov.
The rates have not yet been set
But the cost of rent can and should be discussed, according to him. Noting that this is now a key point, he reports that cost negotiations are ongoing, but to talk about prices and the possibility of discounts for Trans, you must first wait until they are established.
Dmitry Vergun suggests waiting for the approval of the prices for the pneumatic hall, and then discussing them. Photo: Roman Vikulov
The Deputy Head of the City’s Department of Culture Dmitry Vergun informs that the fee for the use of the pneumatic hall has not yet been determined, but meetings have already been held with the heads of sports organizations and clubs interested in receiving the new facility for rent.
“In the last two months, we have been in communication with various organizations, and not only those from Narva. We advertise our pneumatic hall much more widely – there is nothing like it in all of Ida-Virumaa, which means we can attract athletes from all over the region,” says Vergun.
– The figures currently being discussed are being offered to clubs, for example. Can you name them?
– Still, I can only say that the latest prices are two or three times lower than the fee for using similar or very similar Estonian halls. But, I stress that prices have not been decided yet,” says the official.
– If prices in similar halls are two or three times higher than in Narva, then because of what to save, what will the air-conditioned hall of Narva offer lower prices?
– Although prices have not been set, it is still too early to talk about this specifically. But we must understand that the expenditure side of the budgets of these halls is higher than the income side, that is to say that they are always subsidized from outside.

– Can Narva Trans rely on any special conditions?
– Of course, this is being discussed, but we will not talk about it until the prices are published.
Deputy Mayor of Narva Oleg Karpikov claims that the heating of the pneumatic hall will cost an incredible amount of money, there is no need to expect anything exorbitant in terms of the amount of payment for heating there.
They plan to hand over the completed pneumatic hall to the owner, Narva, in November, and it may open in the middle of the month.
Pneumohall started planning a long time ago
At the same time, he noted that the pneumatic hall could be a platform for various friendly games of veterans in the off-season, but he hopes that teams from Russia would also come together with the start of the war in Ukraine. In addition, no one expected a general deterioration of the economic situation in Estonia during the planning period.
“I will say that such a facility is very important for young football players. It is a misconception to think that children can play in the school halls or anywhere else in winter. A 12-year-old player is already a football player who has to think and act on the scale of a full-fledged field,” says Dmitriev.
According to him, the fact that the nearest such hall in Rakvere really opens up special opportunities for the development of Narva, to attract football players from neighboring municipalities.

Ourse, we are considering offering special conditions for Narva Trans, as they are a key local sports organization. Discussions are ongoing, and we want to ensure that the club can afford to utilize the new facility.
while the progress towards improving the Kalev-Fama stadium is underway, the lack of basic amenities like public toilets remains a primary concern. The ongoing negotiations regarding the pneumatic hall’s rental rates are crucial for Narva Trans, not only for their main team but also for developing young talent in the region. The municipality seems to recognize the importance of supporting local sports, but the implementation of these plans will depend on ensuring adequate funding and resources.
