Team-by-Team Breakdown: Good News and Bad News
Here’s a look at the outlook for each team heading into Sunday’s race:
23XI Racing: Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace both currently sit within the top 10 in driver points, demonstrating the organization’s strength. However, both drivers were eliminated from playoff contention last weekend at the Charlotte Roval. Reddick holds the last Toyota win on a 1.5-mile track, achieved last October at Homestead, but Wallace has only secured one top-10 finish in his last 10 Las vegas Cup races.
Front Row Motorsports: Todd Gilliland has shown recent improvement, finishing in the top 20 in the last three races. However, Gilliland and Zane Smith are among nine drivers who have yet to achieve a top-10 finish on a 1.5-mile track this season, with a best result of 11th on such courses. Gilliland’s average finish at Las Vegas stands at 27.1, his worst among 1.5-mile tracks. Noah Gragson has also struggled with qualifying, starting 30th or worse in seven of the last ten races.
Haas Factory Team: Cole Custer will be celebrating his 150th career Cup start this weekend. Unfortunately, his recent performance has been underwhelming, finishing 22nd or worse in eight of the last ten races.
Hendrick Motorsports: Kyle Larson enters the race as a clear favorite, boasting nine top-10s in his last 11 races at Las Vegas, including three wins and two runner-up results.Racing Insights ranks Larson No. 1 in speed and No. 2 in long run speed on 1.5-mile tracks. He also leads all playoff drivers in stage points with 73. William Byron has also been consistently strong at Las Vegas, with five consecutive top-10 finishes. Larson and Chase Elliott are the only drivers to have finished in the top 10 at Las Vegas, Talladega, and Martinsville – all Round of 8 tracks. However, elliott’s recent form at Las Vegas is concerning, with only one top-10 finish in the last five races and finishes outside the top 30 in the last two playoff races at the track. Alex Bowman has also shown inconsistency, placing 26th or worse in four of the last seven races.
Hyak Motorsports: Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s 19th-place finish at the Charlotte Roval was his best result as a sixth-place finish at Atlanta in late June. However, he has only one top-10 finish in the last 15 races on 1.5-mile tracks.
