The Plenary Session of the National Assembly, with 118 favorable votes, declared the Province of Santo Domingo de las Tsáchilas as the “Meat Capital of Ecuador.”
Legislator Jaminton Intriago, president of the Food Sovereignty Commission, and speaker of the resolution, highlighted that the agro-productive activities of Santo Domingo are key to the meat supply of the entire national territory.
While assembly members Amy Gende, Geovanny Benítez, Viviana Veloz and Yadira Bayas, agreed in pointing out the benefits of their province for livestock production. “Santo Domingo is positioned in the heart of the country and is the center of productive connection between the mountains and the coast, which gives it strategic commercial importance,” they mentioned.
“Santo Domingo is characterized by the production of highly genetic livestock and has the largest cattle and bovine fair in all of Ecuador, in which around 10 thousand specimens are sold weekly, with an economic return of approximately 5 million dollars. “, they noted.
The approved resolution also contemplates urging the Executive to present, within a period of three months, concrete plans that allow livestock repopulation and genetic improvement, the adoption of preferential lines of credit, through Public Banking, to encourage livestock development. and taking actions to repower the National Agricultural Research Institute.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock will be requested to promote initiatives that promote the meat industry in the provinces of Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
Through the resolution adopted, the National Assembly highlighted the work with which Santo Domingo residents promote the industry of prepared products and meat derivatives, with which they strengthen the cantonal, provincial and national economy.
