In 2018, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Party leader Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 7 years in prison in a corruption case. Sharif went to London in 2019 with the permission of the Lahore court to seek treatment due to health problems and has not returned since then.

There was a change of government in Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shabazz Sharif took over as the new prime minister. Shabaz Sharif government has also given a new passport to Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was deposed last April, has been insisting that fresh elections should be held for the Pakistani Parliament. Due to the expiration of the term, new elections to the Parliament of Pakistan have been forced to be held by August next year.

In this case, Nawaz Sharif has decided to return to Pakistan next month from London to facilitate his party in the next general election, according to a media report of the country.

An official of the Pakistan Muslim League has also agreed to this. However, he also said that the party will not agree to hold elections before the Pakistan Parliament.

There are reports that the Shahbaz government has decided to bring an amendment to the law to remove the ban imposed by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case on Nawaz Sharif and is taking steps to do so.

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif, who went to London on his way back after completing his visit to Egypt, met Nawaz Sharif. They reportedly discussed the appointment of a new army chief and the political situation in Pakistan.
