Israeli Prime Minister <a href="http://www.time.news/elon-musk-visits-israel-after-controversy-over-anti-semitism/" title="Elon Musk visits Israel after controversy over anti-Semitism”>Benjamin Netanyahu called French President Emmanuel Macron‘s call for other countries to limit arms supplies to the Jewish state shameful.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, he stated this in an interview with the Le Figaro newspaper.

“Israel believes that its friends in Europe, such as France, should stand by its side,” Netanyahu said. He noted the ill-timed nature of the French leader’s call, saying that at the same time Iran is arming various groups in the Middle East with which Israel is fighting, in particular the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah and the Palestinian movement Hamas.

“I find this call shameful, although we do not receive weapons from France. I hope France will change its policy and we can work together for the stability of Lebanon, as well as on other regional issues,” he added.

Earlier, Macron said on France Inter radio that stopping the supply of weapons to Israel for fighting in Gaza is a priority on the path to a political settlement of the conflict. He admitted that there have been no positive developments in resolving this conflict and Israel “does not hear” France’s position. Netanyahu called Macron’s proposal to stop arms supplies a disgrace and said that Israel would defeat all opponents even without Western help.
