Washington: Elon Musk has achieved a major breakthrough in brain computer interface technology through his company Neuralink. In this, a paralyzed man played a game of chess using only his thoughts while controlling the computer cursor. A video related to this has been shared by Neurolink on X. A man named Noland Arbaugh (29) is paralyzed from the shoulders down. In Neuralink’s video, he has claimed to control the cursor with his mind. He said, ‘He is looking at the cursor on the screen. That’s me, all brain power.’ Eight years ago, he was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a horrific accident. In January this year, a Neuralink chip was implanted in his brain. Noland Arbaugh said that he had stopped playing the game after the accident, but now he can play it again. Neuralink was established by Musk in 2016 as a medical research unit. Its aim is to bring about a revolutionary change in the way persons with disabilities interact with the world.
Described experience of surgery
Neuralink technology involves a sophisticated implant procedure, in which a robot inserts thread-like electrodes into the brain. This enables communication between neural activity and computing devices. Arbaugh described his surgery experience as very easy. According to reports, one can return home on the same day the surgery takes place. Arbaugh said he feels fortunate to be a part of Neuralink. He said that he is learning new things every day.

The Neuralink device is the size of a coin, whose testing is currently going on. If it is successful then there will be a revolutionary change. Many reports say that blind people will be able to see through the chip. People whose body is paralyzed may be able to walk. Musk’s brain-chip company got permission for trials in September 2023. This means that now Neuralink will be able to trial the device on humans. However, there have been many concerns regarding the potential of Neuralink. Especially regarding trials on animals.
