Angelo Acerbi, apostolic nun
He was born on 23 September 1925 in Sesta Godano (La Spezia) and was ordained a priest on 27 March 1948 for the diocese of Pontremoli at the time. After entering the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1956, he served in the pontifical representations in Colombia, Brazil, France, Japan and Portugal, as well as in the Church Public Affairs Council of the Secretariat of State. On 22 June 1974, Saint Paul VI appointed him as apostolic pro-nuncio to New Zealand and apostolic delegate to the Pacific, assigning him the title of Zella and the personal title of Archbishop; The same Pontiff, on the following 30 June, conferred episcopal ordination on him in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. Saint John Paul II then sent him as nuncio to Colombia – where, together with other diplomats, he was held hostage for six weeks by the guerrillas of the Movimiento 19 de Abril – and, later, to Hungary and Moldavia and the Netherlands. From 2001 to 2015 he held the office of Prelate of the Sovereign Military Hospital Order of St. John of Jerusalem from Rhodes and Malta.
Father Fabio Baggio, CS, Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development
He was born in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza) in 1965 and, in 1976, he entered the Scalabrini-Tirondola Seminary of the Missionaries of San Carlo, making his profession in 1991. The following year he was ordained a priest. In 1998 he obtained a doctorate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. From 1995 to 1997, in Santiago de Chile, in addition to exercising the pastoral ministry, he played the role of adviser to the Episcopal Commission for Migration of Chile (INCAMI). After that, until 2002, he was the director of the Migration Department of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, also covering, in 1999, the role of national secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Pontifical Mission Societies Argentina. On 14 December 2016 he was appointed Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Promotion Integral Human Development. On 23 April 2022, the Holy Father confirmed him as Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Promotion Integral Human Development and he is also responsible for the Section of Migrants and Refugees and Special Projects.
RoBerto Repole, archbishop of Turin
He was born in Turin on the 29th of January 1967. He entered the Seminary at the age of eleven, and completed his high school studies at the Minor Seminary, obtaining his classical high school diploma at the Valsalice Salesian High School in Turin in 1986. He studied philosophy and theology in the Archbishop’s Seminary of Turin and was ordained a priest on June 13, 1992. From 1992 to 1996 he was parish vicar in the parish of Gesù Redentore and a collaborator in the parish of Ss. Nome di Maria in Turin. He continued his studies in systematic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining his license in 1998 and his doctorate in 2001 with a thesis on the thought of Henri de Lubac in dialogue with Gabriel Marcel. Since 2001 he has been teaching systematic theology at the parallel Turin branch of the Faculty of Theology of Northern Italy and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of the same city. Canon of the Royal Church of San Lorenzo in Turin since 2010, he was president of the Italian Theological Society from 2011 to 2019; Do the Turin section of the Faculty of Theology of Northern Italy and collaborator of the parish of Santa Maria della Stella in Druento. On 19 February 2022, Pope Francis appointed him Metropolitan Archbishop of Turin and Bishop of Susa, which would unite the two personally as bishops. On 7 May 2022 he received episcopal ordination. In September 2022, the Permanent Council of Bishops of the CEI appointed him as a member of the Bishops’ Commission for Catholic Education, Schools and Universities. In October 2022 in Aosta the bishops of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta elected him vice-president of the Conference of Bishops of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta (Cep).
Baldassare Reina, vicar general for the diocese of Rome.
He was born on 26 November 1970 in San Giovanni Gemini (Agrigento). He entered the seminary of the island of Agrigento in 1981. In 1995 he received a baccalaureate in Sacred Theology and in 1998 a licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. He was ordained a priest on September 8, 1995. From 1998 to 2001 he was a diocesan assistant for Catholic Action and vice rector of the Agrigento seminary. From 2001 to 2003 he was the parish priest of the Blessed Virgin Mary Itria in Favara. From 2003 to 2009 he was rector of the study of Theological Studies of San Gregorio Agrigentino and from 2009 to 2013 parish priest of S. Leone in Agrigento. From 2013 to 2022 he was rector of the Major Seminary of Agrigento. He also held the following roles in the diocese: teacher of the Holy Scriptures in the Institute of Religious Sciences; permanent teacher at the Theological Study of San Gregorio Agrigentino; director of the Culture Office; the canons of the Cathedral Chapter; member of the Presbyterian Council and the College of Councillors. On 27 May 2022 he was appointed titular bishop of Acque di Mauritania and auxiliary of Rome. On 6 January 2023, the Holy Father appointed him deputy head of the Diocese of Rome. Since yesterday he has been Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome.
