New corona infections in Austria are again over 2,000

The number of new corona infections in Austria has jumped back to over 2,000 in the past 24 hours (as of 9:30 a.m.). Exactly 2,145 new infections were registered. That is above the average for the past seven days (1,706). The seven-day incidence was 133.7 cases per 100,000 population. Eight people died from or with Corona in the space of one day, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior and Health.

The slight downward trend in new infections over the past few days has ended for the time being. The federal state with the highest 7-day incidence on Saturday was Vienna with 183.7, followed by Upper Austria, Salzburg and Lower Austria (177.7, 128.6 and 115.5, respectively). Carinthia (98.4), Vorarlberg (97.4), Styria (96.6), Tyrol (93.7) and Burgenland (76) followed.

As of Saturday there are 20,998 active cases in Austria, 76 fewer than on Friday. In total, there have been 734,302 confirmed cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. 702,343 people have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic, and 2,213 were considered healthy again within the past 24 hours.

There have been eight deaths since yesterday, the seven-day average was 10.3 a day. 72 deaths have been recorded in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 10,961 deaths in Austria since the outbreak. Since the pandemic began, 122.7 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died from or with Covid-19.

There are currently 864 people in the hospital, four more than reported yesterday. 227 people are cared for in intensive care units. That number has increased by seven since yesterday and has increased by 16 patients within a week.

A total of 468,918 PCR and rapid antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 138,428 were more informative PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 1.5 percent. 20,086 vaccinations were carried out on Friday. According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, a total of 5,700,529 have already received at least one partial vaccination: that is 63.8 percent of the population. 5,383,037 people and thus 60.3 percent of Austrians are already fully immunized.

The vaccination rate (fully immunized) is highest in Burgenland at 67.9 percent. In Lower Austria 63 percent of the population are vaccinated, in Styria 60.9 percent. After Vorarlberg (59.2), Vienna (58.9), Tyrol (58.6), Carinthia (56.7) and Salzburg (56.6), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination coverage of 55.4 percent.
