► Five dead in a Russian strike on a building in Mykolaiv
At least five people were killed and several injured overnight from Thursday to Friday (November 11) in a missile strike on a residential building in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv, regional authorities said.
“In a cynical response by the terrorist state to our successes at the front, a strike hit a five-storey building, completely destroyed”said on Telegram the head of the regional administration, Vitaliï Kim, mentioning a provisional toll revised upwards to five people killed and two injured.
On the first images of the Ukrainian emergency services, we can see the building gutted in the middle and the emergency services advancing at night in the rubble.
► Ukraine announces reconquests in Kherson
Ukraine announced on Thursday the reconquest of a dozen villages in the Kherson region, in the south of the country, where Moscow confirmed that it had begun its withdrawal, a new major setback for Vladimir Putin’s army.
“It is not the enemy who is withdrawing, it is the Ukrainians who are driving out the occupier and paying the price”underlined in the evening President Volodymyr Zelensky, taking the opposite view of the Russian army which affirmed Wednesday to withdraw to occupy better positions. “It was achieved through courage, in pain and with loss”added the Ukrainian President.
At midday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian army, Valery Zaluzhny, announced that his forces had advanced on Wednesday by 7 km, taking control of six localities in the direction of Petropavlivka-Novoraysk and that they had retaken also “six localities in the direction of Pervomaiske-Kherson”. Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that these were now in total « 41 villages » which had been recaptured in the area, where the Ukrainian counter-offensive began in October.
► New tranche of US military aid to Ukraine for $400 million
The United States announced on Friday a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine, including additional missiles for the air defense of kyiv, for a total value of some 400 million dollars.
take in account the “Relentless and brutal Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s crucial civilian infrastructure, additional air defense capabilities are paramount”, a Pentagon spokeswoman told reporters. The aid includes four Avenger short-range anti-aircraft systems, mobile systems mounted on light armor and an unspecified number of Stinger missiles.
This new tranche of aid brings to more than 18.6 billion dollars the military assistance of the United States to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian offensive on February 24.
