New President of Georgia elected

Miheil Kavelashvili elected the sixth president of Georgia.

As Day.Az reported on Saturday, according to the country’s Central Election Commission, he received 224 electoral votes out of 300, with the minimum required 200.

Kavelashvili’s inauguration is scheduled for December 29.

It should be noted that since 2016, Mikheil Kavelashvili has been a member of the Georgian Parliament from the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party.

He was elected to parliament in the 2016 and 2020 elections from the Tbilisi majoritarian constituencies of Sanzona and Nadzaladevi, respectively. From 2016 to 2020, he headed the Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs. Until 2022, he was a member of the Georgian Dream faction.

In June 2022, Kavelashvili, along with several colleagues, left the party and parliamentary faction.

In August 2022, he became one of the founders of the public organization “Power of the People”, which formed a political group in parliament, which became part of the parliamentary majority.

On October 26, 2024, he was elected as a deputy of the Georgian Parliament on the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party list, which also included candidates from the Power of the People movement.
