New Delhi: Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. On the orders of Chandrachud, important changes have been made in the statue of the Goddess of Justice seen in the courts. These changes are clearly sending big messages. Earlier, the eyes of the statue of the Goddess of Justice were blindfolded, but now this blindfold has been removed, perhaps an attempt has been made to convey the message among the common people that the law is not blind. The new statue installed in the Supreme Court has been carved by famous sculptor Vinod Goswami and his team.
it took three months
In an interview given to NDTV, famous sculptor Vinod Goswami told that it took three months to make this statue and it had three stages. First a drawing was made, then a small sculpture was made. When the Chief Justice liked the smaller statue, a larger statue, 6 feet high, was made. The weight of this idol is 125 kg. Goswami said, ‘The new statue of justice has been created as per the guidance and guidelines of the Chief Justice.’
The idol is made from fiber glass?
He further said, ‘The Chief Justice had said that the new statue should be something which is linked to the heritage, constitution and symbol of our country.’ Goswami said that with this in mind, the idol has been dressed in a saree instead of a gown. This shows that justice is being Indianized and efforts are being made to connect it with the common people. This new statue is made from fiber glass, making it strong and durable.
The constitution replaced the sword
Earlier, the statue of the Goddess of Justice used to have a sword in its left hand, which has been removed. Now the Constitution has been placed in place of the sword, through which an attempt has been made to convey the message that legal action will be taken against every accused. The statue of the Goddess of Justice installed in the court has been in use since the British era, but now by making changes in it, a commendable initiative has been taken to change the image of the judiciary as per the times.
Changed the tradition that had been going on since the British era
The Chief Justice is engaged in the initiative to add the color of Indianness to the judicial process by changing the practice that has been going on since the British era. Keeping this in mind, this step has been taken. Through these changes made in the statue of justice, he wants to implement the right to equality enshrined in the Constitution at the grassroots level. These changes are being welcomed all around.
