All family cardholders don’t need to visit fairgrounds and get fingerprinted to get items
CHENNAI: In a move to streamline the distribution of essential commodities, the central government has introduced a new system called ekyc (Know Your Consumer Online) for family cardholders receiving rice. This system eliminates the need for cardholders to visit fairgrounds and undergo fingerprint or iris registration to obtain their items.
So far, 45% of family cardholders have updated their details through the ekyc system, as per government officials. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free process, cardholders are encouraged to update their information during their leisure time or when visiting the stores for purchasing items.
This new system was introduced to simplify the process and avoid any confusion or misunderstanding among cardholders. In some areas, there were rumors that all family members needed to be present to obtain the items, leading to unnecessary panic. However, the government has clarified that family cardholders can update their details individually as per their convenience.
If individuals find it difficult to update their details through the ekyc system, separate camps will be organized for this purpose, and home visits will be conducted if necessary. The government has assured the public that there is no need to fear, and family cards will not be canceled due to this update. Family cardholders can continue to visit the shops as usual and avail their entitled goods.
