BOLZANO. The death toll from the New Year’s Eve bombings in Alto Adige amounts to two minor injuries: a 51-year-old woman from Bolzano, with abrasions on her face, and a 23-year-old young man from San Candido, with a hand injury: both were treated and immediately discharged.
The public order mechanism put in place is consistent.
In Bolzano the concert in Piazza Vittoria it saw the participation of over 4,000 people who celebrated, danced and sang until 2.00 am. The checks envisaged by the Security Plan at the gates and implemented by all the police forces with the help of approximately 50 stewards made available by the event organization prevented a 16 year old from Bolzano entered the square, at 1.30 am, with a blank pistol without the red cap and very similar to a real semi-automatic weapon, with the risk of generating a panic situation.
Taken to the police station, reported for unjustified possession of a weapon and entrusted to his parents, who were summoned to the police station in the middle of the night to take him home.
Also at the access gates to the party, a man decided to get rid of a switchblade, throwing it to the ground before the checks and attempting to escape towards San Quirino.
Around 10.30 pm the “Flying” Squad patrols noticed a car passing at high speed through a red light in via Trieste, direction via Druso. Pursued by the police, the car ran a red light again at the next intersection, causing a road accident, fortunately without any particular consequences. The occupants of the vehicle appeared to be two Italian citizens resident in Bolzano, a 40-year-old with multiple criminal convictions and his 18-year-old son: reported for the crimes of resisting a public official and the father, driving the vehicle, also for refusing to submit to the investigation breath test and driving under the influence of drugs.
There have been various interventions for fights between drunken youths (one in particular involved three people in via Museo, around 2.30 am), but without any significant consequences.
New Year’s Eve parties also took place regularly in Merano, Bressanone, Val Gardena and other areas, with the participation of several hundred people, without any critical issues.
