Next Tesla scandal in Grünheide? Contract should circumvent water requirements

by times news cr

Tesla has already been criticized several times for its handling of nature conservation requirements in Grünheide. Now the company apparently wants to relax the rules for water protection.

Tesla is apparently planning to circumvent the drinking water protection requirements for its factory in Grünheide, Brandenburg. This is what a draft contract with the municipal water association Strausberg-Erkner (WSE) provides for, as “Stern” and RTL report.

The contract therefore stipulates that the measurement procedure for the pollutant phosphorus will be changed, and the permissible limit value for nitrogen will soon be twice as high as before. It should then be 100 milligrams per liter.

In the past, the WSE had repeatedly complained that the Tesla factory exceeded the limit values for water-polluting substances. Now the 16 mayors of the WSE’s municipalities are scheduled to vote on a change to the existing contract for Tesla on Wednesday. To date, the same limit values apply to all contractual partners. Anyone who exceeds this limit faces fines of up to 50,000 euros.

The WSE boss André Bähler, on the other hand, was disillusioned: Although he was not allowed to provide any specific information about the draft contract, he made it clear that the current draft contract does not correspond to the interests of his association. Tesla left a request unanswered.
