Berlin, 1932. A moderate representative, Albert Goldmann (Jan Josef Liefers), sits in the Reichstag, haunted by the horrors of World War I and driven by a fervent desire to prevent another. The idealistic Jewish doctor finds himself reluctantly drawn into a hazardous courier service orchestrated by his younger, radical communist brother, Edwin (Franz Dinda). A chance encounter with the spirited Henny Dallgow (Anna Loos) – a confident woman who soon takes over the vibrant “Ballhaus” nightclub from Matze Belzig (Jürgen Tarrach) as he wisely emigrates to America – offers an unexpected lifeline when Goldmann narrowly avoids a police checkpoint.
