Yes, the Japanese automaker is rounding out its roster, increasing the number of EVs in its ‘family full of eccentrics’ from the previously promised 15 to the now declared 19. And yes, it sounds crazy, but it’s not. Because it seems that the electric ones are yielding to the Japanese brand.

Nissan’s ambitious pledge by 2030:

Before we think this is all a joke to fill the eyes of investors, let’s recognize that, since the first-generation Nissan Leaf and cute cousin Renault Zoe hit the yards, the brand has been a bit of a trailblazer in the world of electric vehicles. . Not exactly Tesla levels of influence, but still.

And, having recommitted to its strategy, it expects the volume of electrified vehicles (i.e. EVs and hybrids) it sells in Europe to rise from a forecast 75% to 98% by 2026.

In revised numbers, however, Nissan reckons it will sell fewer electrified vehicles to China, lowering its projections from 40% to 35%.

Brand offer for the future:

This could be due to the highly competitive launches of the Ora Funky Cat (known as the Good Cat in China) and the resounding success of the award-winning MG4, also known as the MG Mulan in China.

And don’t forget the MG ZS EV and MG HS, the latter became the UK’s best selling car in January 2023.

Nissan also confirmed its plan to enhance its connected car offering: the new electronic architecture that features the Nissan Ariya will roll out on upcoming models over the next decade.
