Formerly Sevastopol, now Broadway Palace. The Na Příkopě house, designed by architects Bohumír Kozák and Antonín Černý in the 1930s, is located at a lucrative address and has the status of the largest functionalist monument in the center of Prague. But nobody wants to own it. The state has been trying to sell it since 2021, and even on the sixth attempt this year, when the price was reduced by one hundred million crowns, it was not sold.

In 2021, the Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters wanted to sell the house for an amount slightly exceeding one billion crowns, which was the highest minimum asking price during the office’s existence. But no one signed up for the auction. Over the course of three years, the authority tried to auction the house six more times, each time unsuccessfully. This year, no one offered even the starting price of 911 million crowns.

The Office for State Representation in Property Matters is now waiting to see if the current tenant will be interested in the Broadway Palace. He offers it to him preferentially at the asking price from the auction. “The existing tenant can exercise his preferential right within three months from the delivery of the notice. Our goal is to find a definitive owner for this exceptional property, which is located in the most lucrative part of Prague, as soon as possible, who will find a meaningful use for it and breathe new life into it,” said ÚZSM spokesperson Michaela Tesařová. The property office approached the tenant with an offer after previous auctions, but he never showed interest.
