Caroline Parmentier escapes disciplinary sanction. While the RN deputy had launched an “assassin” in the hemicycle during an intervention by a communist elected official on the war between Hamas and the Israeli army, at the end of October, the office of the National Assembly, its highest body , did not punish her, according to parliamentary sources.

The reasons for this decision? Firstly, the parliamentarian’s exit did not cause an uproar during the government question session on October 24. Caroline Parmentier also “quickly” apologized, according to a parliamentary source. A simple “reminder of the rules” of mutual respect during the debates was carried out, adds a member of the office.

The RN deputy for Pas-de-Calais assured that the word “assassin” was “obviously aimed at Hamas” and not the communist deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq. She had shouted it during an intervention by the latter devoted to “the terrorist aggression of Hamas in Israel” and the reaction of the Israeli authorities accused of “unleashing themselves against the Palestinian population”. The session president, Valérie Rabault (PS), announced an “investigation” after the use of this word which “has no place in the hemicycle”.

A “murderer” had already been pronounced

A “murderer”, pronounced by the LFI Aurélien Saintoul, had already resounded in the National Assembly during the tumultuous debates on pension reform in February 2023. The Insoumis deputy targeted Minister Olivier Dussopt regarding deaths at work. His exit caused a suspension of the session and indignation from the other camps. He had apologized, before receiving a call to order with entry in the minutes, i.e. the withdrawal of a quarter of his parliamentary allowance for one month.

In the ranks of the National Rally, the deputy Grégoire de Fournas was excluded from 15 days of sitting in November 2022, the heaviest possible disciplinary sanction, for having launched “let him return to Africa”, during an intervention by the Insoumis Carlos Martens Bilongo on migrants. The deputy for Gironde had contested any racist character, ensuring that he was talking about the humanitarian boat Ocean Viking then stuck at sea with 234 migrants and not about Carlos Martens Bilongo, a black elected official from Val-d’Oise.

“Whatever the extremely strong disagreements that I have with the RN, I think that we must stop sanctioning the deputies at all costs,” commented the leader of the LFI deputies, Mathilde Panot, in front of journalists, judging, however, that comments like those of Grégoire de Fournas or the “sexist insults” sometimes thrown in the hemicycle deserved to be sanctioned.
