Emmanuel Macron announced a slew of measures for education today during his speech to the rectors gathered at the Sorbonne. Announcements that will perhaps alleviate fears for this return to school which was announced until then punctuated by a lack of teachers and means.

First point: the revaluation of teachers’ salaries will be “continued” so that none of them starts their career “at less than 2,000 euros net” per month.

At the Grenelle de l’éducation, “you (…) started a general revaluation of remuneration 2 years ago, which will be continued, by ensuring that no teacher begins his career at less than 2000 euros net” and which ” will allow around 10% increase in remuneration compared to the status quo”, declared the President of the Republic before the rectors and rectors gathered at the Sorbonne.

An educational innovation fund of “at least 500 million euros”

Another announcement this Thursday: the creation of an educational innovation fund of “at least 500 million euros”, from September, for establishments wishing to set up a specific educational project. “We put money into it, at least 500 million euros, as close as possible to the field” and this must be “disbursed as quickly as possible”, declared the president before the rectors and rectors gathered at the Sorbonne.

Development of internship time in vocational high school

Emmanuel Macron also wanted a “deep transformation” of vocational high schools through the development of “internship times of at least 50%”, which will be better paid. The objective will also be to “re-attach the vocational high school very in depth and upstream with the world of work”, specified the Head of State, who considered that “the success of our high schools will be absolutely key for the full employment “.

It is a “reform to which I am very attached”, underlined the President of the Republic. “Today, the gap that there is between the internships that we know in professional high school and what an apprentice receives is not sustainable, we are going to have to move towards a convergence of these devices”, he said. He insists.

The Head of State also wishes to “recruit more associate professors from the professional world who will see their place reinforced in the boards of directors” and “prepare young people for job search before the end of their studies”. He entrusted the rectors with the mission of “reviewing, in conjunction with the regions, the map of training courses, jointly taking on the task of closing those which do not integrate and developing those which work, also creating new ones geared towards the sectors which are recruiting”.
