The DPRK has completely severed road and rail communications with the Republic of Korea in the east and west of the Korean Peninsula as part of its policy of territorial demarcation with its southern neighbor. This was reported by the Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA), Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
According to him, the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army took measures to “completely physically sever the roads and railways leading to South Korea on the territory of the DPRK in the eastern and western regions of the southern border” as part of a course to “completely separate the territorial limits under state authority DPRK, with the territory of the Republic of Korea.”
On October 15, sections of roads with a length of 60 m were blown up in the village of Gamho, Gangwon Province in the east of the country and in the village of Dongnae in the west. KCNA explains that this decision was made in accordance with the requirements of the constitution and the military-political “situation that is reaching the brink of war” on the Korean Peninsula due to provocations of “hostile forces.” The Ministry of Land and Environment Protection confirmed that the road blasting did not have a negative impact on the environment. The authorities noted that as a result of the explosion, transport communications were “substantially severed.”
A representative of the DPRK Ministry of Defense added that further measures will be taken to “turn the southern border into a fortress.”
