The North Korean military has tested two cruise missiles launched from a submarine, the state news agency KCNA announced, as the United States and South Korea begin joint military exercises.
The missiles were launched on Sunday from the submarine 8.24 Yongung, off the east coast of North Korea. During the tests, the cruise missiles, considered strategic weapons by the Pyongyang regime, hit targets at distances of approximately 1,500 kilometers.
The tests are intended to demonstrate North Korea’s determination, in the context of military maneuvers carried out by “the American imperialist forces and their South Korean puppets”, the North Korean state agency KCNA, quoted by Reuters, said.
The South Korean military General Staff announced that it is on alert due to North Korean ballistic tests, which intervene in the context in which the American and South Korean military forces will initiate joint military exercises on Monday.
The Pyongyang regime claims that such missiles can carry nuclear warheads. The South Korean intelligence services are analyzing, together with the United States, the technical data of the North Korean tests.
