National coach Nagelsmann runs job sharing in the German goal. Alexander Nübel makes his debut on Friday, followed three days later by Oliver Baumann.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann relies on job sharing in the German goal in the Nations League games. Alexander Nübel will wear number 1 on Friday (8:45 p.m., in the live ticker on t-online) in Zenica against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which Oliver Baumann will then take over for the duel with the Netherlands on Monday in Munich. The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed this on Wednesday.

Shortly beforehand, the association had sent out a media notice announcing that Nübel would be a guest alongside national coach Nagelsmann at the obligatory press conference one day before the game. Since there are usually only players who are in the starting eleven, the DFB sent a clear indication of Nübel’s commitment.

It is the debut in the national team for both the 28-year-old Nübel from VfB Stuttgart and Baumann (34/TSG Hoffenheim). Nagelsmann had already emphasized during the nomination last week that Baumann had now “deserved” his first international match after years of waiting. Baumann was nominated for the national team for the first time in September 2020 (!), more than four years ago. It was never used.

Regular goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury. However, Nagelsmann has already decided on Manuel Neuer’s long-standing “crown prince” as number one for the 2026 World Cup and confirmed this status after ter Stegen’s failure.
