Tragedy in Bogotá: Army Captain Accused of killing Ex-Partner, Then Taking His Own Life
A devastating incident has left the Colombian Army in mourning after a captain allegedly shot and killed his former partner, a fellow officer, before dying by suicide on the night of November 26th at the North Canton facilities in Bogotá. The incident,which occurred around 8:33 p.m., is currently under investigation.
The National Army confirmed the deaths in a statement, expressing “deep regret” and stating the event appeared to stem from a “personal nature” incident. According to preliminary reports, the two officers were found deceased inside a private vehicle after reports of gunfire.
Initial investigations reveal that captain Pablo Vasvela and Second Lieutenant Maria Mora, who reportedly had a prior romantic relationship, are the individuals involved. A third Army second lieutenant witnessed the tragic event.

Prior to the incident, reports indicate the female lieutenant was undergoing retraining in Tolemaida and had requested permission to attend an event. She then traveled to the Infantry School, where Captain vasvela was participating in a course for promotion to major. The lieutenant allegedly entered the North Canton intending to pick up someone with whom she planned to attend a concert at the Movistar Arena.
A senior official stated that the Military Education Center provided preliminary facts suggesting the captain shot his ex-partner before taking his own life.
