Official statistics revealed the number of foreigners who received treatment in Russia during the years 2017 and 2022.
“Ophthalmology care is the most popular among foreign patients in Russia, including from Arab countries,” Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko stated during the international forum “Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum” in 2023.
He pointed out that “medical tourism is developing significantly in Russia, as statistics indicate that 300,000 foreigners received treatment in Russia in 2017. The Russian Minister of Health explained, “The (Roskashistvo Halal) Center was established and accredited at the federal level. The center specializes in evaluating and accrediting clinics throughout the country, and it is valid in the Gulf states, a number of Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries, as well as in the Customs Union countries.”
He pointed out that “Among the advantages that patients travel to Russia for are: advanced, high-tech medical care, high quality standards, availability of doctors with international experience, qualified medical staff, reasonable cost of medical services and related expenses (accommodation, meals, transportation), and… The personal nature of treatment and the provision of the possibility of rehabilitation treatment, as well as regional proximity (as a number of OIC countries are adjacent to the Russian Federation).”
In turn, the organizers of the forum confirmed that “in 2024, the topic of medical tourism will be specifically raised at the international forum “Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum”, which will be held in the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, in May 2024. It is planned that specialized international experts will discuss the development of medical tourism. In Russia and the OIC countries, opportunities for patients from the Islamic world, in addition to issues of providing halal medical services.”
