He explained that “an integrated project is underway in the field that includes gathering, compressing, processing gas, and extracting liquefied gas, in addition to constructing a pipeline to transport natural gas to power stations in Iraq, and building a marine platform in the port of Umm Al-Qasr to export liquefied gas,” indicating that “the total cost of the project increases About $3 billion.
al-Mohsen stated that “the gas produced from the project will generate sufficient electrical energy for about 800,000 housing units and more than four million Iraqi citizens.”
Last Friday, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the implementation of the Nahr Bin Omar field gas development project according to the “Build, Own, Operate and Transfer” (BOOT) principle for a period of 15 years after the date of commercial operation, following the approval of the signing of the South Gas Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
