/ ‍The company developing the Nahr Bin Omar ⁣gas field in southern Iraq confirmed‌ on Wednesday that the production capacity of the field ⁤will‌ reach 300 cubic feet ​per day and will reduce the country’s import of⁣ gas by more than 25%, while indicating that‌ the project will ⁤provide ⁢continuous electrical energy for more than Four million iraqi citizens.

The Director of Business Growth at the Raban Al-Safina Group for Energy projects, Ahmed Al-Mohsen, said in ⁤a‌ statement to Bloomberg, “The production capacity of the Nahr Bin Omar field in Basra will reach ‍300 million ⁢cubic‍ feet of natural gas per day, which will enable Iraq to reduce the quantities of natural gas.” Imported gas⁣ will be about 25%, ⁣and it will⁢ contribute about 10% of fuel production in the country.”

He explained that “an integrated project is underway in the ‌field that includes gathering, compressing, processing gas, and extracting liquefied gas, ‌in addition to constructing‍ a pipeline to transport natural gas to power‍ stations in Iraq, ​and building⁤ a marine platform in the port⁤ of⁣ Umm ⁤Al-Qasr to export liquefied gas,” indicating that “the total cost of the project increases About $3 billion.

al-Mohsen stated ​that “the gas produced from ‍the⁢ project will generate sufficient electrical energy for about 800,000 housing units and more than four million Iraqi citizens.”

Last Friday, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the implementation of the Nahr Bin Omar field gas development project according to the “Build, Own, Operate and Transfer” (BOOT) principle​ for a period of 15 years after the ⁣date of commercial operation, following ⁢the approval of the signing of the South Gas Company, affiliated with ⁣the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Iraqi ‍Oil, an agreement with the⁤ Halfaya Gas ⁢Company, which is part ⁢of the “Rabban Al Safina” group, ‍the iraqi developer in the energy, oil ⁣and gas ‍sector.

Bin Omar field is a giant oil and⁤ gas field located​ in Basra⁢ Governorate, ⁢near the Shatt al-Arab. The field’s oil reserves amount to one billion barrels, and about 780 billion cubic ‌meters of gas.
