Okinawa overtakes Ola Electric to become India’s No1 electric two wheeler manufacturer Brand in India

by time news
Demand for electric vehicles is on the rise in the country due to rising prices of fuels including petrol and diesel. Most of the new two wheeler buyers are now turning their attention to electric vehicles. In terms of sales volume of scooters, Okinawa and Ola are at the top of the rankings with the highest number of sales recorded.

Increasing fuel prices and environmental concerns have pushed people more and more towards EVs. So sales of electric vehicles have seen some significant growth. Okinawa has overtaken Ola Electric to become India’s No. 1 electric scooter maker, following in the footsteps of electric two-wheeler fires across the country.

Although the electric scooters segment receives significant impetus from the government, there has been a decline in the number of sales of electric scooters in May. The decline is said to be due to chip shortages and recent fires. The government, which is taking a series of steps to boost electric vehicle sales, believes sales numbers may have fallen after numerous fires on electric scooters in various parts of the country. The government has noticed such incidents and has advised Ola, Pure EV, Okinawa and other companies to solve the problems in electric scooters.

Meanwhile, Okinawa Autotech, an electric two-wheeler maker, has overtaken Ola Electric to become India’s leading electric two-wheeler brand despite fire accidents. According to the Association of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Okinawa Autotech sold a maximum of 9,309 units last May. But Ola Electric sold only 9,225 units last month. While Ola Electric dominated sales last April, Okinawa topped the list next month, overtaking Ola. Ola Electric recorded sales of 12,691 units in April. But it has sold only 9225 units in the last month.

Subsequently, Hero Electric reduced its sales volume by 58.36 per cent to 2,739 units. TVS Motor sold 2,637 i-Qube in May, contributing to total electric scooter sales.
