The Republic on the Move (LREM) which has become Renaissance initially announced that it will give voting instructions “on a case-by-case basis” in the event of a duel between the Nupes and the National Rally (RN) in the second round of the legislative elections, the June 19, according to a party statement sent Sunday to Agence France Presse (AFP). But faced with criticism from the left and contrary statements from part of its ranks LREM announced through its spokesperson Maud Bergeron, on BFMTV, that “not a voice” should be given to the National Rally.
Words that look like a backpedal after the first ambiguous statements. “It is the Republican front, against the extremes”, had first argued the presidential party in its declaration, considering that “certain candidates of the Nupes” were “extreme”. “It will be according to the personality of the Nupes who is qualified, especially if it is someone who has the values of the Republic”. “But we will not support any RN candidate”, had nevertheless specified LREM.

The Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, had advanced this positioning earlier in the evening on RTL. “We will examine (the situations) on a case-by-case basis,” she explained. Statements that contrasted with that of the Minister Delegate for Europe Clément Beaune (also a candidate in the 7th constituency of Paris), who had explained on BFMTV that he would vote for the candidate of Nupes in the event of a duel against the RN in second round.
While government spokesperson Olivia Grégoire and Minister of Public Accounts Gabriel Attal also shared LREM’s initial position, Yannick Jadot reacted strongly. “Environmentalists mobilized massively to beat Le Pen for the presidency.
