Russian oligarch Dmitriy Zelenov, former billionaire and co-founder of what was once the largest real estate developer Don-Stroy, has died on France’s Côte d’Azur. This is reported by the Russian news agency Baza, as well as the local French newspaper “Var Matin”.
Zelenow suddenly felt sick
The 50-year-old was invited to dinner with friends in Antibes on December 9th. He left the group after midnight and suddenly felt bad on the stairs, as Baza writes. He then fell over the banister and hit his head. Zelenow was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was transferred to the intensive care unit.
In the early morning of December 10, French police officers informed friends of Dmitriy of his death. According to the Russian news agency, the oligarch recently underwent vascular surgery due to heart problems. According to the French police, the case will be investigated to determine the cause of death.
Oligarchs are dying in droves
It’s the latest in a series of Deaths in the Russian elite since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at the wealthy, opposite the Kremlin mostly critical oligarchs, dying under mysterious circumstances. Anatoly Gerashenko, the former head of the Moscow Aviation Institute, is said to have died after falling down a flight of stairs. The Russian oil oligarch Yuri Vodonov turned violent in July 2022 killed – according to official information in a dispute with business partners. But although Wodonow is said to have been killed with just one shot in the head, investigators found several cartridges.
