According to the “State Program for Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027”, the Araz hydroelectric power station (HPP) will be reconstructed.
Tural Murtuzaliyev, deputy head of the State Energy Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said this to Day.Az on Friday.
According to him, a corresponding tender has been announced for the design of the reconstruction of the Araz hydroelectric power station and this station will be reconstructed in the near future.
It should be noted that the Araz hydroelectric power station was built and put into operation in 1970 on the initiative of the great leader Heydar Aliyev. The total generating capacity of the station is 22 megawatts. The nominal volume of the Araz reservoir is 1 billion 250 million cubic meters; in special cases, up to 1 billion 320 million cubic meters of water can be accumulated in a short time.
The Araz hydroelectric power station played an important role in providing Nakhchivan with electricity during difficult times in terms of energy shortages. Electricity supply at that time was provided only by the Araz hydroelectric power station. This station has been operating for more than half a century and currently plays an important role in the energy supply of Nakhchivan. Next year the Service will widely celebrate the 55th anniversary of the commissioning of the hydroelectric power station.
